Men's Tennis Fares Well at BellSouth Mobility Classic

LAFAYETTE, La. - - Derya Rose and Mattias Westerberg reached the semifinals of the doubles draw A Flight to lead the Tulane men's tennis team at the BellSouth Mobility Collegiate Tennis Classic.

Rose and Westerberg opened the tournament with an 8-5 win over the Louisiana-Monroe tandem of Blaise and Pombo. The Green Wave duo then upset the second-seeded team of Ilowski and Winnig from UL Lafayette with a score of 8-6. Rose and Westerberg were ultimately upended by Arkansas' team of Pacheco and Bubis in the semifinals by a score of 8-4.

In the B Flight of the doubles competition, the Green Wave team of Goran Visiljevic and Tatsohito Ishi reached the quarterfinals after posting an 8-2 win over Denver's Ceilley and Menzies. The Tulane team dropped an 8-2 decision to eventual finalists Werren and Jansson from Southern Miss.

In singles competition, Westerberg and Rose each reached the second round of their respecitve draws. Westerberg, playing in the A Flight, began the competition with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Rice's Cody Jackson before falling 1-6, 6-1, 6-1 to UL Lafayette's Bruno Puzzi. Rose dropped a 1-6, 6-1, 6-0 decision to USM's Werren in the second round after receiving a bye in the first round.

Ishi reached the second round of the B Flight singles consolation. He posted a 6-0, 6-3 win over Texas-Arlington's Mark Ilgner in the first round before falling 6-4, 6-0 to Denver's Lachian Menzies in the second round. Ishi had lost his opening match in the B Flight, 6-1, 6-1 to Adam Piskozub from Louisiana-Monroe.

Visiljevic also reached the second round of the A Flight consolation draw after receiving a bye. He dropped a 6-0, 6-0 decision to ULM's Bartosz Dobrowski after having lost his opening match in the A Flight, 6-1, 1-6, 6-0 to ULL's Jakub Ilowski.
