Sept. 28, 2012

HOUSTON - Tulane men's tennis opens the 2012-13 campaign this weekend at the Hampton Inn Galleria Rice Fall Invitational at the Jake Hess Tennis Stadium Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

Third-year head coach Mark Booras will have nine of his student-athletes competing during the tournament, including all three freshmen and the 39th ranked doubles team of Idan Mark and Joe Young.

"We are very excited to get our fall season under way," Booras said. "Our guys have been working hard all fall and are chomping at the bit to get going."

Green Wave freshmen Dominik Koepfer (Furtwanger, Germany) and twins Alex and Ian Van Cott (Unadilla, N.Y.) will get their first taste of collegiate tennis. Koepfer opens Flight B singles at 11 a.m. on Friday, while the Van Cott's are both competing in Flight C and each begin at 11 a.m. Friday.

In addition to Mark and Young playing in Flight A doubles, the pair will each compete in Flight A singles.

Rodrigo Rappaccioli, Takuma Ohashi, Adam Bernstein and Cedric Rutsaert will also compete for the Green Wave this weekend.

In addition to Tulane and host Rice, the field includes student-athletes from New Mexico, Texas A&M Corpus Christi and Texas Tech.

"This tournament has several solid teams who made the NCAA's last year and even finished inside the top 25, so it will be a great test for us," Booras added. "I'm excited to see how our new guys and veterans compete against this level so we can get a good grasp on our goals and capabilities for this year."

After this weekend, the Green Wave will in the ITA All-American in Tulsa, Okla., between Oct. 1 and Oct. 7.
