HOUSTON - Tulane men's tennis team opens the 2013 fall season this weekend when they take part in the Rice Invitational on Friday, Saturday and Sunday at the Jake Hess Tennis Stadium.
Tulane is coming off a 12-8 spring season and earned a final ranking of 69th by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA). The Green Wave returns six players from last year, including the Conference USA Freshman of the Year Dominik Koepfer who posted a 22-9 overall record with a 17-4 mark in the spring.
Koepfer enters his second collegiate season with a No. 112 singles ranking by the ITA and is joined on Tulane's roster by the squad's lone senior Takuma Ohashi, juniors Cedric Rutsaert and Iain Sneddon, sophomores Alex and Ian Van Cott and freshmen Jao Chi-Shan and Sebastian Rey. Head coach Mark Booras enters his fifth season as the helm of the Green Wave.
Ian Van Cott led the team last fall with seven singles victories, while his twin Alex posted six wins. Ohashi, Rutsaert and Koepfer each collected five wins during the tournament season.
"We are really excited about this tournament," Booras said. "The whole team has done well and has been very focused at practice. We have brought the right attitude through the first month we've been here and are looking forward to making a good impression in our first tournament of the fall."
Tulane will face opponents from Texas Tech, SMU and host Rice during the three day event. Singles and doubles both begin on Friday morning and matches will be played though out the day.
