NEW ORLEANS - The duo of Idan Mark and Joe Young, both seniors on the Tulane men's tennis team, earned a No. 39 preseason national doubles ranking by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA), it was released on Monday.
"It's nice to see some early recognition this year for the hard work the guys put in over the last year," Tulane head coach Mark Booras said. "They've really developed into a solid team."
Last spring the pair posted a 14-6 record, including winning all six contested Conference USA matches. The final win of the spring came over the then sixth-ranked doubles team of Clifford Marsland and Ashley Watling of Tulsa, 8-5.
Mark and Young also rattled off 10 straight wins during the spring and the streak was nearly extended if not for a 9-8 loss to Rick DeGroot and Carlin Murray of UL-Lafayette.
Mark and Young are two of six seniors on Booras' Green Wave squad this season. The team also includes a junior, two sophomores and three freshmen.
"I'm excited to see how the new faces are adding to the overall strength of our program," Booras added. "All of the guys are looking forward to a great year so they are pushing hard on the practice courts to build a great foundation this fall."
Tulane opens the fall tournament season on Sept. 28 at the three-day Rice Invitational at in Houston.
