Three Men's Tennis Players Earn LSWA Honors

NEW ORLEANS - Dominik Koepfer, Jao Chi-Shan and a Sebastian Rey, all members of the Tulane men's tennis team, received 2014 postseason honors from the Louisiana Sports Writers Association (LSWA), in was announced by the organization on Sunday morning.

Koepfer nabbed the state's top honor as the Player of the Year, while Chi-Shan was tabbed as the Freshman of the Year. The pair also earned first-team All-Louisiana honors and Rey received a second-team All-Louisiana spot.

The honors were selected by a panel of statewide sports information directors and media members.

"Congrats to these guys for earning these great honors this year," Tulane head coach Mark Booras said. "Dominik, Jao and Sebastian all did a tremendous job playing at high positions in the lineup this year. We are very proud of their accomplishments and are even more excited for their futures for the Green Wave."

Koepfer, a sophomore from Furtwanger, Germany, posted a 21-8 overall record in singles, including 16-5 in the spring. He also went 17-9 in doubles and 14-6 in the spring on his way to earning second-team All-Conference USA in singles and first-team All-C-USA in doubles with Chi-Shan. The pair was ranked as high as 37th by the ITA during the season.

Chi-Shan, a freshman from Taiwan, went 22-8 overall in singles and was 16-5 in the spring. He also was 18-11 in doubles and teamed with Koepfer. Chi-Shan closed the season by winning seven of his last eight singles matches.

Rey, a freshman, went 19-11 overall in singles and was 14-9 in the spring. The Wantage, UK, native closed the season by winning four of the last five matches, including wins in the second and third rounds of the C-USA Championships to help guide the team to a runner-up finish.



Tulane finished the season with a 15-9 overall record under Booras in his fifth season as head coach.
