NEW ORLEANS - Dominik Koepfer, a member of the Tulane men's tennis team, was named the Conference USA Freshman of the Year and second team All-C-USA, it was announced by the league office on Tuesday.

Koepfer became the first Green Wave men's tennis player to receive the Freshman of the Year honor since David Goulet in 2004 and extended Tulane's streak of having at least one member of the first or second team all-conference to four straight seasons.

"This is great honor for Dominik, for our program and for Tulane University," Tulane head coach Mark Booras said. "Dominik had a pretty average fall and worked really hard in the off season and we saw the fruits of that during the spring.

"It is testament to how recruiting has been going and how we've been rebuilding over the last few years. We hope that Dominik will be able to build on awards like this and, along with his teammates, can make an impression on the national scene in the future."

The Furtwangen, Germany, native received the honors after posting a 17-4 dual match singles record and went 13-4 with Idan Mark in doubles.

Koepfer won 14 straight singles matches to begin the spring season and didn't lose until March 24. He posted a perfect 8-0 record on court three before closing out the season on courts one and two with a 6-4 record.

In doubles, Koepfer and Mark won nine straight matches during the spring and helped Tulane win 14 of the 20 doubles points.

The post season honors were voted on by the conference's head coaches.
