ORLANDO, Fla. - The fifth-seeded Tulane men's tennis team opens the Conference USA Championships Friday at 10 a.m. CT against fourth-seeded and 75th ranked UAB at the UCF Tennis Complex.

"Earning a No. 5 seed in the conference tournament is a real testament to how this team has developed in 3 years," Tulane head coach Mark Booras. "I'm pleased with the way we finished out our regular season because I think it gives us more confidence going into this tournament."

The Green Wave (12-10, 3-5 C-USA) enters the postseason having won two of its last three matches, including a 5-2 win over UL-Lafayette at home this past Saturday.

UAB (16-8, 2-1 C-USA) has dropped four straight matches, including a 4-0 loss to No. 2 seed Memphis on Sunday.

"This match will be a tough one, but we know just what to expect because we played them a few weeks ago," Booras said. "Some of the match ups will be different, but I think overall we have a couple of guys that are competing a lot better right now than they were a few weeks ago so that should allow us to look at our last loss to them in a different light."

Tulane fell to UAB, 4-1, on March 31 in Birmingham.

"We are a very evenly matched team and it will take a lot of focus and desire to come out on top," Booras added. "We are looking forward to laying it all on the line so we can stay alive in the tournament."

Rodrigo Rappaccioli leads Tulane in singles with 11 victories, including seven on court five. Idan Mark and Shaye Wali each have 10 singles wins. Mark has teamed with Joe Young for 14 doubles wins this spring as well. The duo has won 11 of the last 12 outings, including an upset of Tulsa's sixth-ranked pair of Clifford Marsland and Ashley Watling this past Sunday.
