ORLANDO, Fla. - Tulane men's tennis enters the 2012 Conference USA Championships as the No. 5 seed and will open the tournament Friday at 10 a.m. CT against fourth-seeded and 75th ranked UAB. The four-day event, which will be hosted by UCF, is set for Thursday-Sunday and will be played at the UCF Tennis Complex.
The Green Wave (12-10, 3-5 C-USA) enters the postseason having won two of its last three matches, including a 5-2 win over UL-Lafayette at home this past Saturday.
Rodrigo Rappaccioli leads Tulane in singles with 11 victories, including seven on court five. Idan Mark and Shaye Wali each have 10 singles wins. Mark has teamed with Joe Young for 14 doubles wins this spring as well. The duo has won 11 of the last 12 outings, including an upset of Tulsa's sixth-ranked pair of Clifford Marsland and Ashley Watling this past Sunday.
The Tulsa, the top seed, team will await the winner of the opening match of No. 8-seed East Carolina and No. 9-seed UCF, which will take place on Thursday.
The Golden Hurricane will open day two of action at 8 a.m. ET, followed by the Tulane vs. UAB match. Afternoon play begins when No. 2-seed and No. 33 Memphis as the Tigers take on seventh-seeded Southern Miss at 2 p.m. Rice, the No. 47 team in the country, earned the three-seed and will take on sixth-seeded SMU to wrap up quarterfinal action in Orlando, Fla.
