HOUSTON - Having won three straight overall and five straight home matches, the 63rd-ranked Tulane men's tennis team hits the road for three matches in the Rice Invitational at the Jake Hess Tennis Stadium this weekend, beginning with Iowa at 9 a.m. CT on Friday.
The Green Wave (7-4, 2-0 C-USA) are coming off a solid 6-1 victory over visiting Illinois State on Tuesday, while Iowa (1-8) has dropped six straight matches, including a 6-1 loss to Big 10 foe Illinois in their last outing back on March 4.
"We are thankful to get invited to this great event," Tulane head coach Mark Booras said. "This is a big weekend for us in several ways, specifically, playing three solid teams back to back, starting conference play up again, and trying to continue building on our progress. Our team is growing together well and this weekend will prove to be another opportunity to gain valuable experience to help us reach our goals. "
After Friday, the Green Wave get tested right away again on Saturday morning when the face No. 34 Memphis in a Conference USA match. The Tigers are 10-2 overall and have won three straight, including their lone conference match, 6-1, over UCF.
The weekend concludes with a battle against host Rice at Noon on Sunday. The Owls, ranked 64th, are 8-5 overall and saw a three match winning streak snapped by San Diego on March 10.
Mark has also teamed with Joe Young to post six doubles wins this spring, including three straight.
Tulane returns home to host conference foe SMU on March 23 at 1 p.m. CT at the Goldring Tennis Center.
