NEW ORLEANS - The Tulane men's tennis team will begin the 2014 spring season in the national rankings as the Green Wave sit 68th in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) rankings, it was released on Thursday.
"It's great to see our team getting votes from around the country to start us out in the national rankings," Tulane head coach Mark Booras said. "It shows how the program continues to evolve from all of the hard work our guys are putting into it."
The Green Wave finished the 2013 season ranked 69th in the ITA after posting a 12-8 dual match record.
Rey and Van Cott posted a 2-1 doubles record this past fall, including an upset win over the sixth-ranked team of Jordan Angus and Malte Stropp of Mississippi State in the third round of the USTA/ITA Southern Regional Tournament at the University of Alabama.
"Sebastian and Alex had a great fall with a couple of key wins to boost them up into the top 40 in the country," Booras added. "It's nice to see this kind of ability from such a young team."
Tulane opens the 2014 dual match spring season on Jan. 19 with matches against Jackson State and Alcorn State.
"We really have some great talent on our team this year from our seniors to our freshman," Booras said. "I'm very excited about our potential this year and know our fans will be able to look forward to seeing some great tennis throughout the spring."
