Men's Tennis Picks up Four Wins at ITA Regional

NEW ORLEANS - The Tulane Green Wave men's tennis program posted four singles victories Friday at the Wilson/ITA South Regional at Goldring Tennis Complex, but was knocked out of the doubles competition with three pairings falling in the Round of 32. Coby Kramer-Golinkoff, Chris Somers, Joe Young and Shaye Wali all picked up consolation victories for the Green Wave. In the doubles round of 32, George Coupland and Artem Ilyushin of Mississippi State topped Tulane freshmen Joe Young and Rodrigo Rappaccioli, 8-0. Alabama's Ricky Doverspike and Michael Thompson downed freshman Coby Kramer-Golinkoff and sophomore Shaye Wali, 8-3. In the final match of the day, freshmen Adam Bernstein and Etham Frenkel teamed up against the Auburn duo of Tim Puetz and Alex Stamchev, with Auburn taking the 8-6 decision. "We played three really solid doubles teams," head coach Mark Booras said. "Our guys definitely had a learning experience more than anything. The teams we played were seasoned and it really exposed some of our weak spots." In consolation play, Tulane posted a 4-3 record, as Coby Kramer-Golinkoff , freshmen Chris Somers, Young and Wali picked up victories.
Kramer-Golinkoff defeated Michael Davis of Alabama, 3-6, 7-5 (6), while Somers downed Centenary's Michael Reeks, 7-6 (3), 6-2. Young TUL swept Robert Voss of Louisiana-Lafayette, 6-1, 6-1, while Wali cruised over Carl Abalos of Samford, 6-2, 6-4. Alabama's Trey Walston topped Rappaccioli, 6-4, 7-5, while Javier Pulgar of Louisiana-Lafayette swept Frenkel, 6-0, 6-0. Auburn's Nick Maruillo fended off freshman Adam Bernstein TUL; 2-6, 6-4, 10-8. TheWilson/ ITA South Regional continues Saturday with the singles quarterfinal and doubles quarterfinals. "The guys took it to heart, but talking to them afterwards," Booras continued, "they are really starting to understand what it takes to compete at this level. They're excited to get back on the court, work hard and get ready for the next tournament." The Green Wave will complete their fall schedule next Saturday and Sunday at the Alabama Crimson Tide Invitational. Consolation Matches
