HOUSTON - Tulane men's tennis doubles team of Idan Mark and Joe Young, ranked 39th in the nation, earned the Flight A title on Sunday afternoon at the 2012 Hampton Inn Galleria Rice Fall Invitational at the Jake Hess Tennis Stadium.
Mark and Young defeated teammates Dominik Koepfer and Rodrigo Rappaccioli, 8-4, in the championship match. Including Mark and Young's perfect 3-0 record in the tournament, the Green Wave posted 19 wins against 12 losses. Tulane's doubles teams went 8-3 as well, including Koepfer and Rappaccioli's 2-1 record in Flight A.
The freshman doubles team of twin brothers Alex and Ian Van Cott posted a 2-1 record in Flight B with an opening round on Friday and a consolation win on Sunday.
In singles, Young came up just short in Sunday's Flight A title match, falling to TAMCC's Peter Nagy, 6-1, 6-2. Adam Bernstein and Ohashi each posted a consolation wins on Sunday. Ohashi defeated TAMCC's Petro Jordao, 6-2, 4-6, 7-5, in Flight C, while Bernstein edged TAMCC's Andrew Maingott, 6-4, 6-4, in Flight D.
Tulane will send selected student-athletes to this week's All-American Qualifying in Tulsa, Okla., that leads up to the All-American Tournament this coming weekend.
