Men's Tennis Advances To Four Title Matches At Rice Invitational

HOUSTON - Saturday was another successful day on the courts for the Tulane men's tennis team as Joe Young and Ian Van Cott each advanced to play in their respective flights title match at the 2012 Hampton Inn Galleria Rice Fall Invitational at the Jake Hess Tennis Stadium.

Young, a senior, advanced to the Flight A championship with a 6-2, 6-3 victory over Jonathan Chang of Rice. Young will face TAMCC's Peter Nagy on Sunday for the title. Nagy upended Tulane's Idan Mark, 6-3, 6-3, in the semifinal.

Van Cott, a freshman for the Green Wave, defeated TAMCC's Pedro Jordao, 6-3, 6-2, in the Flight C semifinals. Van Cott will battle New Mexico's Mitch Daniels in Sunday's championship. Daniels got past Tulane's Takuma Ohashi, 6-4, 7-6, in the semifinal.

Tulane will also have a pair of doubles teams playing for a title in Flight A when the senior duo of Mark and Young will face off against freshman Dominik Koepfer and senior Rodrigo Rappaccioli.

Other day two winners included freshman Alex Van Cott's 6-2, 6-2, victory over Rice's Gustavo Gonzalez in a consolation match in Flight C and senior Adam Bernstein's 6-4, 6-2, win over TAMCC's Daniel Erbacher in the consolation match in Flight D.
