Youth Leads Men's Tennis at Rice Invitational

HOUSTON - Youth led the Tulane men's tennis team on the opening day of the 2013 Fall season with sophomore Dominik Koepfer and freshmen Jao Chi-Shan and Sebastian Rey earning singles victories on Friday in their respective flights at the Rice Invitational at the Jake Hess Tennis Stadium.

The doubles team of Iain Sneddon and Cedric Rutsaert also won to advance in the doubles bracket.

"I was pleased to see the young guys come out and play the way they did," Tulane head coach Mark Booras said. "Dominik picked up where he left off last spring and the freshman opened their collegiate careers with solid wins against good opponents."

Koepfer recorded a, 7-5, 5-7, 6-2, victory over Texas Tech's Hugo Dojas in Flight A, while Rey posted a, 6-4, 6-3, win over Andre Napolitnao of Texas Tech in Flight C and Chi-Shan won, 6-1, 6-2, over SMU's Julio Olaya also in Flight C.

Sneddon and Rutsaert defeated the Texas Tech duo of Evan Nix and Jolan Cailleau, 8-2, in Flight B doubles to advance onto Saturday's semifinals.

Koepfer will face Rice's Adam Gustafsson in the semifinals of Flight A on Saturday. Rey will take on David Warren of Rice and Chi-Shan will play Texas Tech's Cailleau in the two semifinal matches on Flight C.
