LUBBOCK, Texas - Tulane's men's tennis team opened the 2012 spring dual match season on Friday afternoon with a 7-0 loss at No. 22 Texas Tech at the Falls Athletic Indoor Club.
The Green Wave (0-1) dropped the double point despite the duos of Idan Mark and Joe Young and Adam Bernstein and Rodrigo Rappaccioli taking their opponents deep into the set before falling 8-6. Mark and Young fell to Raony Carvalho and Rafael Garcia on court one, while Bernstein and Rappaccioli lost to Francisco Zambon and Raphael Pfister on court three.
Texas Tech (1-0) won all six singles matches in straight sets. Tulane's Shaye Wali, playing on court three, took Garcia deep in each set before falling, 6-4, 6-4. Takuma Ohashi, on court six for the Green Wave, lost to Raphael Pfister, 7-6 (8-6), 6-3, in another close match.
"We came up against a very seasoned Texas Tech team with three seniors and three juniors in the line-up that caused us a lot of problems," Tulane head coach Mark Booras said. "I was pleased with the way our guys fought today. We had some real bright spots today with Takuma and Shaye playing well.
"We have to rebound and great ready for Denver," Booras added. "They are a similar program with a lot of experience. It will be another big challenge for us."
The Green Wave will face Denver on Saturday at 4 p.m. CT in Lubbock, Texas.
