Prep: Was an honor student at Thom Howard Academy. Was the No. 1 ranked junior player in Turkey at the 12's, 14's, 16's and 18's age levels. Was also ranked No. 1 in doubles in those same age divisions. Was ranked as high as 96th in the world according to the International Tennis Federation Junior rankings. Was ranked 950th in singles and 780th in double by the ATP Tour. Was the Most Valuable Player in both tennis and soccer as a sophomore and junior.

Personal: Was born Nov. 3, 1980 in Izmir, Turkey. The son of Tuba and Levent Tanik. Has a younger sister, Belce.
