New Orleans - Tulane sophomore Lorenzo Doss has been selected as the 2013 Louisiana Defensive Player of the Year, and Doss joined seniors Julius Warmsley and Cairo Santos on the all-state first team, while senior Ryan Grant, junior Sam Scofield and sophomores Jordan Batiste and Peter Picerelli were tabbed to the second team in the annual selection of the Louisiana Sports Writers Association (LSWA) All-Louisiana College Football Team.

Doss, who hails from New Orleans and is a graduate of St. Augustine High School, added the state's top defensive award to his glowing list of accomplishments for the 2013 campaign. The cornerback has already received second team All-America honors from both the Walter Camp Foundation and Sports Illustrated, while both SB Nation and College Sports Madness each tabbed Doss their Conference USA Defensive Player of the Year for 2013.

Doss is a first time selection to the all-Louisiana team. This season, he started all 13 games and led the team in interceptions with seven and also added nine pass breakups to go with 34 tackles (25 solo), including 1.5 tackles for lost yardage, and had one fumble recovery. He ranks fourth nationally in interceptions and 26th for passes defended.

Doss was named C-USA Defensive Player of the Week and Jim Thorpe Award Defensive Back of the Week after he picked off two passes, including one returned 59 yards for a touchdown against North Texas on Oct. 5. He also returned an interception 69 yards for a touchdown and had a fumble recovery and return of 31 yards at FAU on Nov. 2.

A defensive tackle from Baton Rouge, Warmsley is also a first time recipient of All-LSWA honors. He started all 13 games and was also named to the C-USA first team. He accounted for 46 tackles (31 solo), including 18.5 stops for lost yardage and 6.0 sacks. Warmsley ranked 15th in the country for tackles for loss per game with 1.4 and tallied a career-best nine tackles (3 solo) with a tackle for loss at Rice on Nov. 30, and also posted a career-high 4.0 tackles for loss among eight stops (7 solo) vs. Tulsa on Oct. 26.

An All C-USA first team kicker from Brasilia, Brazil, Santos is a repeat selection to the all-state first team. This season, he played in all 13 games and led the team with 86 points after connecting on 16-of-23 field goals, including two game-winners against East Carolina and North Texas, and all 38 PATs. He also handled kickoff duties and had 62 kickoffs for 3,995 yards (64.4 avg) and 47 touchbacks. Santos only allowed 13 returns this season.

A native of Beaumont, Texas, Grant was TU's fourth All C-USA first team performer for the 2013 campaign, and is a repeat performer to the all-Louisiana second team after garnering the same honor in 2012. This season, Grant played in all 13 games with 12 starts and led the team in catches (77), receiving yards (1,039), touchdown grabs (nine) and was third in points scored (54). Grant had career highs with 14 catches (fourth-most in Tulane history) and 187 yards (10th-most in Tulane history) and a pair of touchdowns vs. Jackson State on Sept. 7.

Along with picking up all-conference first team accolades and all-Louisiana second team honors, Grant has already accepted an invitation to play in the 2014 Reese's Senior Bowl on Saturday, Jan. 25, 2014 at Ladd-Peebles Stadium in Mobile, Ala.

A native of Gramercy, who prepped at Lutcher High School, Batiste played in 12 games with five starts in the secondary in 2013 and led the team in forced fumbles (four) and sacks (7.0) and ranked fifth on the team in tackles (35). He also accounted for eight pass breakups, grabbed one interception and recovered one fumble. Batiste's forced fumble total leads all C-USA players and ranks eighth nationally.

Batiste was named C-USA Defensive Player of the Week after posting a career-high eight tackles, a sack, a forced fumble, an interception and a pass break-up at ULM on Sept. 28. He also had eight tackles with a sack among 1.5 tackles for loss and a fumble recovery at Rice on Nov. 30.

Scofield hails from Lafayette and is a first-time selection to the all-Louisiana squad. This season, the safety led the Wave in tackles with 104 (74 solo) and ranked third on the team in tackles for loss with 9.5 and also accounted for 1.5 sacks, eight pass breakups and forced two fumbles and recovered two fumbles.

He notched a career-high 18 (14 solo) stops with two pass break-ups, 1.5 tackles for loss and a forced fumble vs. Tulsa on Oct. 26 en route to earning C-USA and Louisiana Defensive Player of the Week, as well as Bronko Nagurski National Defensive Player of the Week honors. Off the field, he was tabbed to the CoSIDA Capital One Academic All-America second team and the C-USA All-Academic Football Team.

A native of Warren, R.I., Picerelli is a first time member of the all-state squad. This season, he played in all 13 games, punting 80 times for 3,316 yards (41.5 avg), forcing 22 fair catches, pinning opponents inside the 20-yard line 23 times and booming 13 punts of 50-plus yards. He also held for all 23 field goal tries and all 38 PATs. His 80 punts and 3,316 yards each rank first among Tulane's single season leaders.
