NEW ORLEANS, La. - Seven Tulane University football standouts were named to the 2006 Louisiana Sports Writers Association All-Louisiana College Football Team, the LSWA announced Friday evening.

Chris Beckman (Sr./Punter), Matt Forté (Jr./Running Back), Joe Goosby (Jr./Linebacker), Donald Madlock (Sr./Guard), Lester Ricard (Sr./Quarterback) and Israel Route (Sr./Defensive Back) earned second-team all-state honors while Damarcus Davis (Sr./Wide Receiver) claimed honorable-mention recognition.

The honor was the second of the 2006 season for each player as Beckman and Route claimed second-team All-Conference USA honors, Forté claimed third-team honors, and Madlock, Goosby, Madlock and Ricard all earned a spot on the C-USA honorable-mention list.

Beckman led the Green Wave and ranked fourth in C-USA with a 42.4 yard-per-punt average after punting for 2,207 yards on 52 punts. His hang time forced eight fair catches and he dropped eight inside the opponent's 20 yard line.

Davis and Forté led the Green Wave in receiving and rushing, respectively. Davis hauled in 51 passes for 607 yards and four touchdowns while Forté - who missed the final three games of the 2006 season with a knee injury - paced the ground game with 859 yards and eight scores on 163 carries. Forté also made an impression on the aerial attack with 29 receptions for 360 yards and two touchdowns. Forté finished the year ranked fourth in the league with 95.4 yards per game while Davis ranked seventh in receptions per game (4.25).

Goosby ranked fourth on the team with 54 tackles, including five and a half for losses totaling 19 yards, and added two and a half sacks. His six pass break-ups ranked second on the team and forced one fumble and recovered another.

Madlock helped pave the way for the Green Wave to roll up 1,794 yards on the ground and 2,958 through the air. At one point midway through the season, the offensive line did not give up a sack in three consecutive games, and allowed just one in a four-game stretch.

Ricard, a two-time C-USA Offensive Player of the Week, posted his best season with the Green Wave in 2006 when he completed 229 of 400 passes for 2,795 yards and 18 touchdowns. Route, meanwhile, led the Tulane defense with 12 pass break-ups and four forced fumbles while finishing second on the team with 70 tackles with an interception.

While the Green Wave's season ended back in November, several Tulane players will continue to play well into the New Year as Davis and Madlock are slated to participate in the Magnolia Grid Iron Classic on Saturday. Davis was also selected to represent the Green Wave in the Inaugural Inta Juice North South All Star Classic on Jan. 13. Ricard will play in the Las Vegas All-American Classic on Jan. 15 and the East-West Shrine Game on Jan. 20.
