NEW ORLEANS - The week leading up to the 2013 R+L Carriers New Orleans Bowl that will pit the Tulane Green Wave against the Ragin' Cajuns of Louisiana-Lafayette is full of fan events throughout the city of New Orleans.
The events will get started on Thursday evening at the Bowl Weekend Kickoff Party, which will be held at the New Orleans Hamburger and Seafood Company (located at 4141 Saint Charles Avenue). The event will begin at 6 p.m. with a special edition radio call-in show with Tulane head football coach Curtis Johnson. The event is free for fans, and those wearing green will get a special discount off their entire meal.
After the show, fans can join the "Wave Bowl Stroll" along with the Tulane Marching Band and cheerleaders through the French Quarter on double-decker buses. The buses will leave at approximately 7:30 p.m. from the restaurant, and will return at 10:30 p.m. Wristbands will be given out on a first-come, first-serve basis beginning at 5:45 at the restaurant for the bus ride. Only those with wristbands are guaranteed a seat on the buses.
On Friday, the R+L Carriers New Orleans Bowl will hold their Luncheon at the New Orleans Marriott at noon. The event costs $45 per person, and tables of up to eight guests can be reserved. Tickets to the event can be purchased here
Later Friday, Manning's Restaurant, located at Harrah's New Orleans Casino Hotel at 519 Fulton Street, will be hosting the Tulane Green Wave Happy Hour from 4-6 p.m. Attendance is free, and special food and drink discounts will be available.
From Manning's Restaurant, fans can "Second-Line" with the Tulane Marching Band and cheerleaders to Champions Square for the R+L Carriers New Orleans Bowl Free Friday Night Concert, featuring the Charlie Daniels Band and Travis Tritt at 7 p.m. The concert is free of charge.
There are a slew of events leading up to Saturday's kickoff at 8 p.m. on the day of the game, starting with the R+L Carriers New Orleans Bowl Run for the Goal Line at 7 a.m. at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome. The bowl, in partnership with the Greater New Orleans Sports Foundation, welcomes fans to the inaugural Run for the Goal Line 5-Mile, 5K and Half-Mile Kids Fun Run. A Very Merry Bowl Brunch will take place at the House of Blues New Orleans from 11-2 p.m. later on Saturday. The event is hosted by the Tulane Alumni Relations and the Tulane Club of New Orleans, and will feature an abundant brunch buffet, live jazz and special `Bowl Wave' giveaways. The cost of the brunch is $25, and there is special pricing for children. Those interested in registering can register here.
At 2 p.m., the Tulane men's basketball team will be hosting Alabama State in the Westin Holiday Classic Tournament at Devlin Fieldhouse on Tulane's campus. Tickets for the game start as low as $5 for youth and $10 for adults. Fans can always call (504) 861-WAVE for tickets.
Following the men's basketball game, fans can head back down to the Superdome for the R+L Carriers New Orleans Bowl Official Tailgate at 4 p.m. on top of Garage #1. For $25, fans can pop up their own tents while Tulane's official radio station, 106.1 FM "The Ticket" broadcasts their pre-game radio show. Space is limited, and will be doled out first-come, first-serve. The tailgate concert in Champions Square begins at 5:30 p.m., and will feature Band Camp.
As Band Camp takes the stage, the R+L Carriers New Orleans Bowl Pre-Game Party will get started in Champions Square and in Club XLIV. Gourmet food from Mr. Mudbug and a cash bar will be on-hand, along with special guests, including Tulane Director of Athletics Rick Dickson. At 7:15 p.m., the fans will make their way towards the Superdome alongside a brass band-led second line. Admission to the Pre-Game Party is free, but space is limited.
