New Orleans - Tulane's rookie defensive back combination of true freshmen Lorenzo Doss and Darion Monroe were each named to the 2012 Conference USA All-Freshman team, as selected by the league's 12 head football coaches.

Doss and Monroe are the first Tulane defensive backs named to the league's all-freshman squad since Israel Route in 2003 and it's the first time since 1997 that two TU defensive backs were named to the all-league freshman team.

A native of New Orleans and product of St. Augustine High School, Doss played in all 12 games with nine starts as a true freshman and led the team with five interceptions, the most by a TU player since Sean Lucas' five picks in 2003. Doss tied for second among C-USA players and ranked 11th nationally in interceptions while sitting tied for second in fumble recoveries (1), sixth with 44 tackles and tied for sixth in pass break-ups (2). He was named the Louisiana co-Defensive Player of the Week after picking off a pair of passes and tallying a career-high six tackles vs. UAB. He also had six-tackle performances at UL-Lafayette and UTEP and vs. Rice.

Monroe is another native New Orleanian who prepped at nearby East St. John High School. As a true freshman, he started all 12 games, leading the team with 96 tackles and fumble recoveries (3) while adding 2.5 tackles for loss on defense and returning three punts for 63 yards on special teams. He tied for the C-USA lead in fumble recoveries per game (0.25) and tied for 13th in tackles per game (8.0). Monroe had five double-digit tackle outings with a career-best 13 vs. SMU; 12 vs. Ole Miss and Houston; 10 at UTEP and vs. Rice. He recorded nine stops and a pair of fumble recoveries - including one returned 54 yards for a touchdown -at Memphis.
