Green Wave Kicker and Lou Groza Award Semifinalist Cairo Santos will hold a Twitter chat on the @GreenWaveFB twitter handle Thursday, November 15 at 4PM CT. Fans are welcome to chat with the junior kicker from Brazil as he inches closer to perfection in field goals with just two games remaining in the season.
Santos is one of just three qualifying kickers who have yet to miss a field goal this season, and his 17-for-17 mark is the best of them. The St. Augustine, Fla. native hit from 45, 43 and 30 yards and converted two PATs in the Green Wave's 37-23 road loss to the University of Memphis on Saturday.
His 11 field goals of 40 yards or longer are three more than anyone in the nation, and includes two from beyond 50 yards including the school record of 57. Saturday's game was the first three field goal performance of his career, but his seventh multi-field goal game this season. His 73 points make him the team leader in scoring.
Two week ago vs. Rice, Santos nailed a school-record 57-yard field goal, which ranks as the third longest among FBS schools this season. He also drilled a 54-yarder against ULM earlier this season and owns two of the longest field goals in school history.
The Lou Groza Award will be presented as part of the Home Depot ESPN College Football Awards in Orlando, Fla. on Thursday, December 6th. The three finalists will be feted at the 21st Annual Lou Groza Awards Banquet on Tuesday, December 4th at the Kravis Center in West Palm Beach, Fla.
