NEW ORLEANS, La. - Junior defensive tackle Frank Morton and junior strong safety David Skehan were named Tulane Football's Defensive and Special Teams Players of the Week, respectively, Green Wave head coach Chris Scelfo announced Monday.

The honor was the first of the season for Morton. Skehan, meanwhile, earned his fourth special teams honor of 2006 and the fourth player of the week title overall. He claimed Special Teams Player of the Week recognition on Sept. 18, Oct. 24 and Oct. 30 for his performances against Mississippi State, Auburn and Army, respectively, and claimed Defensive Player of the Week honors on Oct. 2 for his outing against SMU.

Morton led the Green Wave's defensive effort on Saturday against Southern Miss, posting a career-best eight tackles, including six solo stops. Two and a half of his tackles came behind the line of scrimmage for 12 yards lost, including a pair of sacks.

Morton's two-sack day marked the first time in 2006 that a Green Wave student-athlete posted a multiple-sack day, and his two and a half tackles for loss were a career-best. He posted a solo tackle in the first quarter and added three more in the second, including a tackle for loss and a sack. In the third, Mortan posted one solo stop and two assisted tackles, and closed out his day with a tackle for loss in the fourth.

Skehan helped the Green Wave special teams average 41.5 yards per punt while holding the Golden Eagles to a 3.0 yard-per-return average. He also finished tied for second on the team with seven tackles from his defensive back position where he posted five solo tackles and two assists.

One of his solo stops was a fourth-down tackle for loss in the first quarter which helped Tulane stop Southern Miss at the Green Wave four yard line.

Morton, Skehan and the Green Wave return to action on Saturday, Nov. 18, when they close out the home portion of the 2006 schedule against C-USA foe UCF at 1 p.m. in the Louisiana Superdome.
