Coach Toledo's Comments Following Thursday's Practice

Nov. 8, 2007

On the team's week of practice
"We've had a different week in that we only went out in full pads one day - on Tuesday. We're kind of worn down a little bit, we're beat up, and we've got three defensive linemen (Sean Carney, Logan Kelley and Julian Shives-Sams) that aren't going to play. We've just got to try to finish strong. Without having a bye week, it's really affected us from a physical standpoint."

On what the team is playing for over the final three games of the 2007 season
"I think that's the big thing right now - pride and self respect. That's something you can always have and they can't take that away from you. We're out of a bowl game and we're out of playing for a championship, but we can play for pride both individually and as a team and you can play for self respect. You want people to respect how hard you play and what kind of effort you give. Those are the things we're trying to do."

On if he's pleased with his team's effort so far this season and this week in practice
"Yes I am. I'm pleased with their attitude and their work ethic."

On if the passing of UTEP quarterback Trevor Vittatoe is a concern for his defense
"Yes, it is a concern. He's doing a great job. They also have one of the best running backs in the country to with Marcus Thomas. Our work is going to be cut out for us. I think the big thing is they're going to try and take away our running game, and when we run we have to be efficient running the football. We have to complete some passes and make them pay for packing the paint, so to speak."
