Oct. 28, 2008

New Orleans - Tulane University junior running back Andre Anderson will miss the remainder of the 2008 season after he sustained a season-ending injury to his right shoulder last week during the second quarter of the Green Wave's game against the Rice Owls, it was announced today by Tulane head football coach Bob Toledo.

Anderson, who was named a candidate for the 2008 Doak Walker Award this past Monday, suffered a fractured dislocation of his right shoulder early in the second quarter.

"It's a big blow to our football team to lose Andre, especially on offense because he is one of our biggest playmakers and now we are going to have to play with young, inexperienced backs," Toledo said. "He gives us leadership and energy and he really excites our team with his ability. I feel really bad for Andre. He worked really hard in the offseason and over the summer to become a complete back for us. Before the season, I said he would be a 1,000-yard rusher for us and he was well on his way to achieving that goal."

This season, Anderson started seven games and rushed for a team-best 864 yards and seven touchdowns on 174 carries (5.0 ypc), and he ranked second on the team for receptions (25), third in receiving yards (202) and had one catch for a touchdown.

Despite missing most of the Rice game due to an injury suffered in the first half, Anderson currently ranks eighth nationally and first among Conference USA players in rushing yards per game (123.43) and is 24th in the nation and fifth in C-USA for all-purpose yards per contest (152.29). He has rushed for 100 or more yards in four games and owns two of the nation's top 11 rushing performances this season with 255 yards at UTEP (6th) and 219 yards vs. SMU(11th)
