It hasn't taken Tulane senior running back Matt Forté long to start pulling in accolades from his stunning 342-yard, four-touchdown rushing performance that helped the Green Wave beat Southern Methodist 41-34 in overtime Saturday.

He was named the Walter Camp Foundation National Offensive Player of the Week.

In the win, Forté carried 38 times on his way to breaking his own school and Conference USA record of 303 yards. It was the second time this season Forté has won the award, also taking the honor Sept 23, after his 303-yard, five-touchdown game against Southeastern Louisiana.

With his huge game, Forté moved into the nation lead in rushing, having gained 1,261 yards for an average of 180.1 yards per game. Forté leads the No. 2 rusher -- Central Florida's Kevin Smith (1,085, 155 ypg) by more than 25 yards a game.
