BATON ROUGE, La. - Tulane linebacker Noel Ellis was named the Louisiana Sports Writers Association Defensive Player of the Week, the organization announced Monday.
Ellis, a 6-foot-1, 241-pound junior from New Orleans, La., registered 11 tackles in the 48-32 win over Louisiana-Lafayette, including a sack for a loss of seven yards. It was the second consecutive week, and the third time this season, that Ellis had10 or more tackles in a game.
Ellis is currently tied for the team lead with 55 tackles.
It is the first time in his career that Ellis has been honored by the LSWA.
The Tulane football team (3-3, 1-1 C-USA) will next be in action on Saturday, Oct. 23, as the squad takes on No. 20 East Carolina in Greenville, N.C. Kickoff is scheduled for 3 p.m. (CDT) and will be televised on Fox Sports Net South.
