NEW ORLEANS - A pair of Tulane football players were named Player of the Week by the Louisiana Sports Writers Association after the Green Wave's 34-27 win over SMU Thursday. Junior running back Andre Anderson was named Offensive Player of the Week, with junior kicker/punter Ross Thevenot taking home Special Teams honors.

Anderson, from Stone Mountain, Ga., racked up a career-high 219 yards on 36 attempts with a touchdown. It was the fourth straight game that Anderson has finished with a career-high in rushing yardage. His biggest run of the night came late in the fourth quarter with Tulane in need of a first down to end the game. Anderson responded on second down with a career-long 40-yard romp to seal the game. Anderson's 219 yards was the seventh-best single game rushing total in Tulane history.

For the year, Anderson leads the Green Wave (2-2) in rushing with 490 yards on 120 attempts and four touchdowns. He is also Tulane's second leading receiver with 15 catches for 113 yards.

Thevenot, a junior from Lake Charles, averaged 56 yards per punt on three attempts for 168 yards, placing one inside the 20. He also connected on field goals of 32 and 43 yards while converting all four PATs. His 43-yard field goal with 4:01 to play was a season-long and his 71-yard punt was the longest by a Green Wave player since 2003.

With a pair of field goals, Thevenot upped his point total to 28 on the season (six field goals, 10-for-10 on extra points). He now stands at 17-of-21 on field goal attempts in the Louisiana Superdome in his career.

Tulane is back in action on Saturday, at Tad Gormley Stadium, where the Green Wave take on the Army Black Knights at 2 p.m. as part of Tulane's Homecoming festivities. The day begins with the Tulane Tailgate Homecoming Village on Roosevelt Mall (located outside the gates of the stadium) at 9 a.m. The activities continue with a big-name band playing on the main stage at 10 a.m., the Homecoming Court Parade at 11:30 a.m., the team's arrival at Noon and special presentations on the stage prior to kickoff at 2 p.m.

The Green Wave will also honor the 2008 Tulane Athletics Hall of Fame class, which will be inducted on Friday.
