Tulane Football Continues Preparation for Season Opener against Tulsa this Friday
Aug. 31, 2009
New Orleans - Although Monday might have been the first work day of a new week for most, the Tulane Green Wave continued its preparation for its season opener against Tulsa with a physical Monday practice at the Westfeldt Practice Facility. TU opens the 2009 campaign against Conference USA rival Tulsa in front of a nationally televised audience on ESPN at the Louisiana Superdome. Kickoff is slated for 7:06 p.m. Donning full pads amid overcast conditions for most of the two-hour practice session, Tulane went through physical drills, including the alley drill, score drill and one-on-one drills. For the first time in nearly 10 days, the Wave has every player who suffered from flu-like symptoms back on the field. "It always feels different on game week," Tulane head coach Bob Toledo said. "I know I feel different. But it's amazing what a day off can make. We weren't very physical with our scrimmage this past Saturday, and there was a lack of concentration and focus today and the tempo was up and down. I was disappointed and I told them we were sloppy today. It's like anything else. If you're going to fight you have to keep sparring and we have to work back to it. Hopefully, we'll be there tomorrow and Wednesday." Although the Green Wave has lost one day of normal preparation due to the Friday night match-up, Toledo stated his team's preparation has been ongoing. "Today might have been Monday, but we treated it like we would have a Tuesday and were in full pads where we could bang a little. We'll treat tomorrow like a normal Wednesday and come out in shells, but we've had 8-10 days of preparation to get ready for this game, so there's not really any time lost or gained," Toledo said. Fans can catch Coach Toledo and select players at the first coaches' radio show of the season this Wednesday night from 7-8 p.m. at Bruno's Tavern (7538 Maple St.). Fans can email their questions to Coach Toledo via the football home page on the official website of Tulane Athletics: www.TulaneGreenWave.com.
