NEW ORLEANS - One day after opening the 2013 season with a 34-7 win over Jackson State, the Tulane University football team received more good news on Friday as head coach Curtis Johnson announced the addition of senior defensive end Jeremy Peeples.
A native of Selma, Ala., the 6-4, 242-pound Peeples joins the Green Wave from LSU, where he completed his bachelor's degree political science in May 2013, and will be eligible to play right away. Peeples is the second former Tigers' student-athlete to join the Tulane program - joining defensive tackle Chris Davenport - and is now one of five players with previous Division I-A experience to dot the Green Wave roster - joining defensive end Tyler Gilbert (University of Arkansas/Southwest Mississippi Community College), quarterback Nick Montana (University of Washington/Mount San Antonio College) and cornerback Taurean Nixon (University of Memphis)
Following a three-year prep career at Selma High where he played along the offensive line for coach Brian Montgomery, Peeples joined the LSU program as a walk-on in 2009. After redshirting his first season and not seeing any action the next two, Peeples saw time in three games in 2012 - North Texas, Idaho and Auburn - as a member of the special teams units. In addition to providing depth on the Green Wave defensive line during the fall, Peeples will work toward a master's degree in homeland security.
Peeples comes from an athletic family as his father, Willie, played basketball at Stillman College, and cousin, Eric England, played football at Texas A&M before serving stints with the NFL's Arizona Cardinals, Canadian Football League's British Columbia Lions and Toronto Argonauts, as well as the XFL's San Francisco Demons.
The Green Wave return to action on Saturday, Sept. 7, when they play host to South Alabama at 2:30 p.m. in the Mercedes-Benz Superdome. For tickets to that game, as well as future Green Wave events, contact the Tulane Athletics Ticket Office. The Ticket Office is located on the first floor of the Wilson Center on Ben Weiner Drive, and tickets can be purchased in person, over the phone at 504-861-WAVE (9283) or via the Internet at www.TulaneGreenWave.com.
