NEW ORLEANS - Tulane went through its next-to-last day of two-a-day practices Thursday with a pair of workouts in shoulder pads and shorts.

"Our concentration and intensity were good this morning," said head coach Chris Scelfo, "so we were able to build on a very productive scrimmage from Wednesday. I think we're on track for game week.

The Green Wave had its second major scrimmage of the preseason Wednesday morning, and Scelfo mentioned that his first Tulane squad is beginning to grow weary from nearly two weeks of two-a-days.

"Our kids are looking forward to two-a-days being over so we can begin completely focusing on Southern Miss. We're tired of banging into each other and ready to hit someone in a different color jersey."

The Green Wave concludes two-a-day drills Friday. Saturday the Wave players participate in Fan Day, scheduled at 11:30 a.m. at the Wilson Center. Tulane fans are invited to come get autographs and take pictures of their favorite players.

The Green Wave opens the 1999 season against Southern Miss on Labor Day, Sept. 6, at 2 p.m. The game will be televised nationally by Fox Sports Net.
