Aug. 17, 1999

COVINGTON, La. - As expected, muggier weather and two new faces were a part of Tulane's second day of full-squad workouts Tuesday at St. Paul's School.

"It was a little warmer and more humid today, but I thought our players fought through it well," said head coach Chris Scelfo. "Their concentration was good and we caught the ball better today.

"We don't have our entire offense and defense in right now, but the execution is about where I want it to be. We're throwing a lot at them, and they seem to be picking it up."

After another day in shorts Wednesday, Tulane will don full gear for the first time Thursday.

Meanwhile, Scelfo welcomed transfers Michael Burks and J.P. Losman to their first entire day of two-a-day workouts Tuesday. Burks, a running back originally from Kenner who led Auburn in rushing last season, participated in Monday afternoon's practice, but Tuesday was his first complete day. Losman, a Venice, Calif., quarterback who signed with UCLA before transferring to Tulane, made his Green Wave practice debut Tuesday morning. Both players will sit out the 1999 season and be eligible for 2000.

The Green Wave continues two-a-day practices in Covington through Friday before holding a scrimmage Saturday morning. The team will return to New Orleans following the scrimmage.
