On Simulating Game Situations:
"Everything we do in practice is situational. We do things that will happen in games. Every drill that we do, every situation we run through will happen in games. Today, we covered our situational down and distance, an overtime period where we actually scrimmaged from inside the 25. And then we covered some more red zone. All of those things we'll use throughout the season."

On Introducing New Material:
"We insert more on the one-a-days than the two-a-days. In a single-practice, with the meeting times that day, that's when we install things. We're throwing a lot of stuff at them. There's so much to learn, It's the whole, part, whole theory. We'll throw a lot at them, then we'll bring it back. Then we'll go to a game plan, which will be a lot easier than everything we've thrown at them because it's more condensed."

"You can't go 100-miles an hour for a full two and a half hour practice. But in everything we do, we are on them to be mentally and physically tougher. As a coach, we push them, then back off, push them, then back off. Trying to expose them to a lot of things, so in the third, fourth week we can say `remember when...'"

On his Freshman Period at the End of the Practice:
"The young guys get six plays by themselves. We'll mix it into the middle, but usually have a couple at the end. We keep it really simple, just to let them try it and see how they do. When we go back and look at the video, sometimes we'll see something out of a young player that impresses us. You've got to give them an opportunity to see what they can do. We're trying to find out who can help us as true freshmen."
