Head Coach Curtis Johnson
Overall thoughts on Thursday's scrimmage
"It's always good getting indoors. I think everybody has a better pep in their step. They're ready to roll. They see the posters. They're ready to play. I thought it was good. There was a lot of emotion. They hit well. The intensity was up. It was fun to watch."
On the play of his quarterbacks
"All of those quarterbacks played well. I thought Tanner Lee had a sensational scrimmage. We're going to review the film and there is still some stuff we need to improve on, but he played well. Montana led us down the field and Devin Powell also led us down. We practiced well today."
On the defense flying around the field
"They were hitting, now. There were some vicious licks. I saw Lazedrick (Thompson) get pounded a couple of times. It was a good scrimmage, a real good scrimmage."
On the second half of Thursday's two-a-day
"We just need to beat the heat. We got it in. It was supposed to rain and we got a chance to beat the heat a little bit. We slowed the tempo down and we slowed the practice down, but it was a nice little practice."
Junior Wide Receiver Xavier Rush
On how the scrimmage went on Thursday
"I think it went well. As an offense, we moved the ball pretty well. We felt like were cohesive, but we still have some things to work on. The defense played well. They moved around fast. It was just a good, all-around scrimmage."
On his 75-yard scoring reception from Tanner Lee
"It was just the way the defense played. We killed it to a pass, I got open and Tanner threw a great ball. I ran under it and I just finished."
On the Green Wave's receiving corps
"I feel that we have a lot of talent. We have a lot of veterans coming back - RG (Ryan Grant), Shack (Justyn Shackelford), me. I think we can put up some good numbers. Also, we've got some young guys that are very talented - (Devon) Breaux and (Kedrick) Banks). We've also got some other guys who have come in and are learning, so I think we have a good core group and I think we're going to do big things this year."
On the team holding its first two-a-day practice on Thursday
"We got a chance to get off of our feet, get into the playbook and then go at it for a second practice."
Sophomore Safety Richard Carthon
On how the scrimmage went
"I thought the scrimmage went well. Everybody was hustling to the ball and everybody was playing hard. The offense made some pretty big plays and the defense made some really big stops. I thought it was pretty good."
On how he felt making some big hits during the practice
"It felt great. You've got to make every opportunity count and it's good that I was able to do that. It's good to be out there with the boys again."
On how he feels he is doing so far during preseason practice
"I feel that I'm doing pretty well. Each and every day, you've got to find a way to get better and improve upon what we've done. I'm getting some pretty good coaching and I just need to build upon that."
