New Orleans - Tulane University first-year head football coach Curtis Johnson welcomed 100 players to campus on Sunday morning as the 2012 Green Wave football squad assembled together for the first time on the eve of the 2012 fall camp.

The team began the morning moving into their fall camp dorm rooms, meeting with various support staff areas and compliance officers, going through team rules and policies and was fitted for equipment. The players and coaches will conclude the evening with its first team meeting.

"I have been looking forward to this day since we finished up spring practice," Johnson said. "It's great to finally have all the players and coaches together and I cannot wait to get started. We'll spend today getting everyone organized and tomorrow we'll start camp and the process of preparing our team for Sept. 1.

"This is the fun time of the year and my expectations are to get better every day. I hope our fans will come out and support us throughout fall camp."

The Green Wave will practice for the first time as a unit at the Westfeldt Practice Facility on Monday, Aug. 6 at 8:30 a.m. Tulane's practices are open to both the public and the media.

TU's 2012 preseason camp features 22 practice dates, including a pair of public scrimmages and two dates at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome, and the Wave will wrap up fall camp on Saturday, Aug. 25. Fall classes begin at Tulane on Monday, Aug. 27.

Senior defensive end Brock Sanders was the lone player who did not report. Sanders was excused from today's team activities due to his right foot injury he sustained near the end of spring practice.

Johnson announced on Sunday the addition of punter/kicker Peter Picerelli and five walk-on players, including punter/kicker Steven Broccoli, punter/kicker Logan Hilton, linebacker David Laborde, wide receiver Alec Macias and defensive lineman Ruston Pritchard from nearby Chalmette.

Johnson's first-year squad is comprised of 54 returning lettermen, including 17 starters (7-offense; 7-defense; 3-special teams), with 10 redshirt-freshmen and nine squad members and features 28 newcomers. Tulane's 2012 squad is made up of 83 scholarship players and 18 walk-ons.

Tulane will play its first game under Johnson when it opens the 2012 campaign at home in the Superdome against Big East Conference opponent Rutgers on Saturday, Sept. 1 in a nationally-televised contest on the CBS Sports Network at 7 p.m. CST.
