New Orleans - Tulane University second-year head football coach Curtis Johnson welcomed 98 of 99 players to campus on Friday morning and officially kicked-off the 2013 Green Wave football fall preseason camp.

The team began the morning moving into their fall camp dorm rooms, meeting with various support staff areas and compliance officers, going through team rules and policies and was fitted for equipment. The players and coaches will conclude the evening with the first team meeting.

"Today is a long but fun day for the players with all the meetings and it's important to hear the message every area has for them and to get to know the support staff as well," Johnson said. "I am excited about this team and today because it's my first time to have everyone together. I really like being around the guys and getting to know the new players a lot better. I can tell these players are chomping at the bit and eager to get going. I can't wait to get started tomorrow."

The Green Wave will practice for the first time this fall on campus at Greer Field at Turchin Stadium on Saturday at 8:30 a.m. Saturday's practice is open to both the public and the media. Fans are asked to please park in the Rosen Lot and enter Greer Field at Turchin Stadium through the main entrance and remain in the stands.

TU's 2013 preseason camp features 24 practice dates, including four two-a-day practices, and the Wave will wrap up fall camp on Saturday, Aug. 24. Fall classes begin at Tulane on Monday, Aug. 26.

Freshman defensive end Ade Aruna was the only player who did not report on Friday but is expected to join the team as soon as he completes necessary paperwork.

Johnson announced on Friday the addition of a junior college transfer and seven walk-ons. The transfer is Tyler Gilbert, a 6'3" defensive end, who played at Southwest Mississippi Community College in 2012. Gilbert, who hails from Sorrento, La., spent the 2011 campaign at Arkansas and prepped at nearby John Curtis Christian High School.

The walk-ons include linebacker Max Herman (Los Gatos, Calif.), receiver Alex O'Neill (Waco, Texas), kicker Brandon Purcell (Paradise Valley, Ariz.), punters Austin Righeimer (Park Ridge, Ill.) and Casey Spinelli (Covington, La.), running back Marshall Wadleigh (Pearl River, La.), offensive lineman Constantine Zotos (Houston, Texas)
