New Orleans - The preseason awards for Tulane junior cornerback All-American Lorenzo Doss continue to roll in but the biggest nod came from the Walter Camp Football Foundation, as the group tabbed Doss as one of 50 "players to watch" for its 2014 Player of the Year award. The Walter Camp Football Foundation is the nation's fourth-oldest individual college football accolade.

A native New Orleanian and graduate of St. Augustine High School, Doss has already been selected to three preseason watch lists, including the Jim Thorpe Award, the Bronko Nagurski Trophy Award from the Football Writers Association of America (FWAA) and the 20th Annual Chuck Bednarik Award Watch List by the Maxwell Football Club.

Doss is one of 17 players from the defensive side of the ball (7 defensive backs, 5 defensive lineman, and 5 linebackers) and is one of three players from the American Athletic Conference, joining quarterback Shane Carden of East Carolina and linebacker from Terrance Plummer.

The numerous preseason honors come following a 2013 season which saw Doss claim second-team All-America honors from Sports Illustrated and The Walter Camp Foundation after he led the team with seven interceptions - including two returned for touchdowns - while finishing third with nine pass break-ups and 10th with 34 tackles (25 solo, 9 assists).

In addition to claiming All-America status following his sophomore campaign, Doss also claimed Conference USA Defensive Player of the Year distinction from SB Nation and College Sports Madness, was tabbed Louisiana Defensive Player of the Year by the Louisiana Sports Writers Association, earned first-team All C-USA honors by the league coaches and media members as well as from College Sports Madness and was listed first-team All-Louisiana by the LSWA.

While helping the Green Wave post a 7-6 record and qualify for a bowl game for the first time in over a decade, Doss finished the 2013 campaign second in C-USA in interceptions per game (0.5) and third in passes defensed per outing (1.2) while ranking fourth and 22nd nationally in the respective categories. Doss has played in all 25 games with 22 starts for his career, posting 78 tackles (58 solo, 20 assists) with 12 interceptions, 11 pass break-ups, two fumble recoveries and 1.5 tackles for loss. He shares the Tulane career record in interceptions returned for touchdowns with a pair while ranking second with 264 interception return yards and tied for sixth with 12 picks.

In the Tulane single-season record book, Doss sits sixth and tied for eighth in interceptions with seven in 2013 and five in 2012, respectively, while ranking seventh with a 26.4 yards-per-interception-return average last season.

The watch list will be narrowed to 10 semi-finalists in mid-November. The 2014 Walter Camp Player of the Year recipient, which is voted on by the 125 NCAA Bowl Subdivision head coaches and sports information directors, will be announced live on ESPN SportsCenter on Thursday, December 11. The winner will then receive his trophy at the Foundation's annual national awards banquet on January 17, 2015 at the Yale University Commons in New Haven.

Walter Camp, "The Father of American football," first selected an All-America team in 1889. Camp - a former Yale University athlete and football coach - is also credited with developing play from scrimmage, set plays, the numerical assessment of goals and tries and the restriction of play to eleven men per side. The Walter Camp Football Foundation (www.waltercamp.org; @WalterCampFF) - a New Haven-based all-volunteer group - was founded in 1967 to perpetuate the ideals of Camp and to continue the tradition of selecting annually an All-America team.

The Walter Camp Foundation is a member of the National College Football Awards Association (NCFAA) which encompasses the most prestigious awards in college football. The 21 awards boast 678 years of tradition-selection excellence. Visit www.NCFAA.org to learn more about our story. The members of the NCFAA unveiled their preseason watch lists over a 12-day period this month. Fifteen of the association's 21 awards select a preseason watch list and the NCFAA has spearheaded a coordinated effort to promote each award's preseason candidates.
