New Orleans - Tulane's Trent Mackey continues to garner national attention by some of the most prestigious college football award outlets as the senior linebacker was selected to the 43rd Annual Rotary Lombardi Award Official Watch List, as it was announced today by The Rotary Club of Houston.

Mackey, who hails from Port Sulphur, La., is a repeat selection to the Rotary Lombardi Award Watch List, as he was also a member a year ago, and today's selection marks his second to a national award in less than week. Last Thursday, Mackey was recognized as one of the top defensive players in the nation for the upcoming 2012 campaign with his selection to the Bronko Nagurski Trophy Watch List.

A two-time All-Conference USA performer and 2011 first team selectino, Mackey is coming off his second straight season with 100+ tackles and was one of the nation's top defenders in 2011, logging 145 (96 solo/49 assists) tackles in 12 games. He finished second among C-USA players and ranked fourth nationally with 12.1 stops per game.

The sociology major was one of the Wave's most productive defenders with 14 tackles for lost yardage, which ranked fifth among conference players, 4.5 sacks, one fumble return and one interception return for a touchdown.

Mackey has career numbers of 279 tackles (162 solo, 117 assists), 21.5 tackles for loss, 4.5 sacks, three forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries and two interceptions. He has played in 35 career games and has started the last 24 consecutive contests.

The Rotary Lombardi Award is hosted by the Rotary Club of Houston and benefits the American Cancer Society. The Award was initiated by the Rotary Club in 1970 shortly after the death of Vince Lombardi to cancer. Rotary Lombardi Award is a member of the National College Football Awards Association.

The Rotary Lombardi Award goes annually to the college football lineman -- offense or defense -- who, in addition to outstanding performance and ability, best exemplifies the discipline of Vince Lombardi. As the legendary coach of the Green Bay Packers, Lombardi first made a name for himself as the smallest but toughest member of Fordham University's "Seven Blocks of Granite," renowned in their day (1934-37) for being the most unyielding line in college football.
