New Orleans - The countdown is on for Tulane's return to campus this fall to play its football games in the nearly completed Yulman Stadium and today the American Athletic Conference (AAC) released game times and television information for four of the Green Wave's 2014 games.
An historical day awaits the entire Tulane University community on Sept. 6 when Tulane returns to campus for the first time in nearly 40 years to play a home football game. The Green Wave will host long-time rival Georgia Tech in the inaugural game at Yulman Stadium at 3 p.m. CST in front of a nationally televised audience on ESPNews.
The Green Wave last played on campus when it closed out its final game at old Tulane Stadium against Ole Miss on Nov. 30, 1974. Tulane and Georgia Tech, each of which were founding members of the Southeastern Conference in 1933, last played in 1982, which was also in New Orleans.
"We are pleased to announce our early season game telecasts and kick off starts to allow our fans to plan accordingly," Tulane Director of Athletics Rick Dickson said. "We are especially appreciative of ESPN and the American Athletic Conference to accommodate our request for an afternoon start of our inaugural game, which will allow us to efficiently plan an entire weekend of activities with the historic celebration and dedication of Yulman Stadium."
The following week, the Green Wave will host Southeastern Louisiana in the first night game at Yulman Stadium at 7 p.m. (CST) on ESPN3. Tulane topped the Lions at home in the last meeting between the schools in 2011.
Tulane's Halloween conference game against Cincinnati will be televised on either ESPN2 or ESPNU and will kick off at 7 p.m. CST on Friday, Oct. 31. Tulane and Cincinnati last played in 2002, also in the Crescent City.
The Green Wave will open the 2014 campaign on the road at Tulsa on Thursday, Aug. 28 at 7 p.m. on the CBS Sports Network. The game will mark the first-ever AAC game for both the Green Wave and the Golden Hurricane and will also be the first league game of the season for The American. Tulane downed Tulsa a year ago in New Orleans.
For the most part, there will be no more announcements of selections until the season gets underway and the 12-day selections begin after the first two weeks of play are completed with the picks for Week 4.
A list of events surrounding the opening week and dedication of Yulman Stadium will be announced at a later date.
