NEW ORLEANS - Tulane's football team began the 2011 spring workouts on Monday with a 22-period practice in shorts and helmets at the Westfeldt Practice Facility.
Head coach Bob Toledo, who enters his fifth season at the helm of the Green Wave, opened practiced with special teams that included kickoffs and kickoff returns. Individual drills followed and practice concluded with some team drills.
"It was fun to get back out here and see how much development they had in the off season," Toledo said. "I thought the enthusiasm was good. This is a chance to line up and do your assignments and go fast without being physical. This is a good learning opportunity."
Tulane will return to the field Wednesday for another practice in shorts and helmets.
The Green Wave will practice from 9 a.m. to Noon each day and will conclude the spring season with its annual green-white scrimmage on Saturday, April 16 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
