Tulane's Curtis Johnson said he was pleased with the Green Wave's spring practices.

New Orleans - The Tulane football team closed out spring practice on Wednesday with a walk-through on campus and will now focus on academics, strength and conditioning and individual workouts until the 2014 fall camp opens in August.
In one of the earliest spring football practices to date, Tulane started on Friday, Feb. 7 and concluded today. Following today's walk-through, Tulane head coach Curtis Johnson and members of the Green Wave coaching staff handed out individual awards.
"I really like the direction we are going, but it is hard to grade this group without playing in a game," Johnson said. "I really liked our defense and I believe the strength of our team right now is the defensive line. We have a lot of young talent. I like our quarterback race, our running backs and I thought we really improved on the offensive line.
"Overall, we were able to accomplish what we set out to do and then some. With the quick spring, this defense looked like they were in mid-season form and the offense really caught on quickly to our installments. The spring practices and extra bowl practices in December really helped us. This was a great spring for us."
"This team needs to be focused on academics and committed to the weight room for the remainder of the spring," Johnson added.
