Matthew Bailey led the TU defense with two interceptions from his linebacker sport this morning.

New Orleans - The Tulane football team continued spring preparations on Friday with its ninth practice and it was the defense who won the day after forcing several turnovers while fine-tuning its 3-4 scheme at the Saints Indoor Practice Facility in Metairie.
After the offense seized the day on Wednesday while the defense learned the new 3-4 alignment, today the TU defenders were swarming to the ball and played well all-around. With the Green Wave already thin at linebacker due to injuries, senior Matthew Bailey and sophomore Eric Thomas received the majority of the reps. Bailey responded with a pair of interceptions, including his first that he tipped in the air and then caught it while falling on his back.
The Tulane offense also had its highlights with several spectacular throws by each of the four quarterbacks. The biggest of the day came from junior Jordy Joseph, who bobbled the snap in the face of an all-out blitz but was able to avoid an on-coming defender and heave a touchdown strike down the right side of the field to senior receiver Devin Boutte.
The Green Wave offense continued to review its spring installations, and will continue to do so through the completion of spring practice.
"I thought the offense played well on Wednesday and today the defense made a comeback," Tulane head coach Curtis Johnson said. "I thought both sides looked good. The defense did a little more 3-4 work today. I thought Matt Bailey had a good practice with two interceptions. It was a good practice overall."
The Green Wave returns to the Saints Indoor Facility to close out the week on Saturday, Feb. 22 for practice No. 10. Tulane will welcome back its football alumni, which is one of Johnson's main focuses.
"When you start a program and get it rolling, it is important to invite the alumni back and have them as a part of the football program once again. They will come back tomorrow and tell all their war stories and we love to hear about them. It will be an honor to have those guys come back to campus and be around our football team," Johnson said.
