New Orleans - In its lone open practice of the spring season, the Tulane football team completed its sixth practice with a 37-play controlled scrimmage that saw the offense produce 220 yards and one touchdown, while the defense forced a turnover and produced two sacks this morning at Tad Gormley Stadium in City Park.

Tulane opened the morning with an hour-long practice that featured normal group periods, 7-of-7 drills, walk-throughs, a special team's period, goal line, individuals and turnover drills. Following the scrimmage, the Wave worked through five red zone series.

The controlled scrimmage featured limited tackling and was focused more on technique and fundamentals on both sides of the ball. Redshirt freshman Sherman Badie led the ground attack with nine carries for 41 yards, while redshirt sophomore Lazedrick Thompson reeled off 22 yards on a pair of carries.

In the passing game, the quarterback foursome of senior Nick Montana, junior Jordy Joseph, redshirt sophomore Devin Powell and redshirt freshman Tanner Lee each saw action. Powell completed 6-of-7 passes (.857) for 55 yards and a touchdown to lead the group. Powell threw a four-yard pass to junior Larry Dace for the game's only score.

Lee completed 2-of-3 attempts for 52 yards, including the longest strike of the day to senior receiver Justyn Shackleford. Montana connected on 4-of-6 attempts for 35 yards, while Joseph was 4-of-5 on the day for 32 yards.

Senior receiver Devin Boutte led the receiving corps with four catches for 61 yards.

On the defensive side, redshirt freshman cornerback William Townsend led the way with four tackles, while redshirt freshman defensive end Quinlan Carroll and redshirt sophomore defensive tackle Calvin Thomas each recorded a sack.

Sophomore defensive tackle Tanzel Smart forced one fumble and redshirt freshman safety Tristan Cooper came up with the recovery.

The Green Wave returns to the Saints Practice Facility on Monday, Feb. 17 for practice No. 7 and will remain indoors for the remainder of spring practice.
