Today's game marked the 34th meeting between Tulane and Rice on the gridiron. With the loss, the Green Wave trail in the all-time series 18-15-1.
Sophomore running back Orleans Darkwa finished the day with 78 rushing yards on 19 carries. For his career, Orleans Darkwa has now run for 1,778 yards and 22 touchdowns on 374 carries. For the season, Orleans Darkwa has now run 190 times for 853 yards and 11 touchdowns.
With 93 all-purpose yards against Rice (15 rushing, 32 receiving, 46 kick return), Robert Kelley now has 1,661 all-purpose yards for the season. That mark is good enough for the No. 5 spot in Tulane single-season history. He moves ahead of Michael Pierce (1,644 in 1988) and needs 22 more yards to pass Mewelde Moore's 1,683 recorded in 2002.
Senior DT Dezman Moses collected a sack in the second quarter and another in the fourth quarter giving the senior 8.5 this season. His 8.5 ranks him fifth on Tulane's single-season sacks list. His career total is 14.5 which ranks fifth on the Green Wave's career list
Moses' nine tackles today tied a career-high for the senior matching his nine in the season finale last year at Marshall.
Junior QB Ryan Griffin tossed his 13th touchdown of the season and the 36th of his career when he found Xavier Rush in the fourth quarter.
Freshman WR Xavier Rush pulled down his third receiving touchdown of the season in the fourth quarter.
Thirteen Tulane players extended their double-digit starting streaks on Thursday against Houston: senior offensive guard Emmanuel Aluko (16), junior linebacker Darryl Farley (13), junior quarterback Ryan Griffin (13), senior offensive tackle Harris Howard (15), junior defensive end Austen Jacks (24), junior offensive tackle Eric Jones (14), senior wide receiver Joe Kemp (13), junior linebacker Trent Mackey (24), senior defensive end Dezman Moses (15), senior center Joey Ray (12), junior cornerback Jordan Sullen (12), junior cornerback Ryan Travis (24) and senior defensive tackle Cedric Wilson (12).
Tulane captains for Thursday's ballgame were permanent team captains junior QB Ryan Griffin and senior DT Cedric Wilson, along with game captains senior C Joey Ray and senior NT Chris Asumnu.
