Interim Head Coach Mark Hutson
"This was a well-played game by both teams and it was very competitive throughout. With the way the wind was blowing today, field position was very important. They pinned us deep several times in the first half and made it difficult for us. It turned into a defensive game and came down to making plays when you had the wind at our backs. We had several deep shots but we didn't make plays when the opportunity was presented. You have to give the Rice defense credit. They were able to stop us from making those big plays. "
"Offensively, we were able to put together a 16-play, 75 yard drive and make it a one score game. On their next series, our defense came up with a stop to get the ball back for our offense, but we suffered a sack and went three and out. In the end, they were able to put the game away with a score."
#6 Defensive End Dezman Moses
"We worked hard today and tried to give our best on every down. We made some mistakes today and that cost us. One of our goals coming into the game was to try to pressure the quarterback and stop the run. Their offense really attacks the defensive line and so we had to be disciplined, play our technique and try to pressure the quarterback and we did that today.
"Field position is always important. It's a game of inches that can change in a few seconds, whether it's a sudden change or a turnover."
#26 Running Back Orleans Darkwa
"We missed too many big plays today. We had a lot of receivers open in the first half and we just couldn't connect. They were playing man-to-man and gave us one-on-one situations and our receivers beat them, but we just didn't get it done.
"There were some holes there and I felt like we were effective a little bit but we weren't able to make the big plays that we wanted to, so we just have to go back to the drawing board. We have Hawaii next week and I want to go out there, get a win and end the season on a good note."
