Recap |  Final Stats |  Quotes

UAB 26, Tulane 21
Tulane Game 6
Legion Field
Birmingham, Ala.

• Today's game marked the sixth all-time meeting between the two teams and the Green Wave's first trip to Birmingham, Ala., since Nov. 8, 2003. With today's 26-21 loss, the Green Wave fall to 3-3 in the all-time series. The loss also snaps a three-game winning streak against the Blazers as Tulane had won the last three matchups, 35-14 on Oct. 19, 2002 in the Superdome, 38-24 on Nov. 8, 2003 at Legion Field and 59-55 on Oct. 23, 2004 in New Orleans' Tad Gormely Stadium

• After posting five-plus sacks in their previous three games, the Green Wave failed to record a sack in ballgame for the first time since last year's season finale at Tulsa (Nov. 24, 2006).

• Senior running back Matt Forté posted his second consecutive 200-yard rushing game and third of the season with 209 yards and a touchdown on 32 carries. With 202 yards last weekend against Army gave him the school record for 200-yard rushing games (three) and padded the record to four. It was his third game in 2007 with at least 100 yards rushing, and the 10th of his career. Forté's 10 100-yard rushing games still ranks third in Tulane history; three behind second placed Eddie Price (13 from 1946-49) and 12 behind record-holder Mewelde Moore (22 from 2000-03).

• Forté's 209 yards rushing ranks seventh in Tulane single-game history and give him 919 through the first half of the 2007 season. Forté's previous season-high was 859 yards in nine games last season. His 919 so far this season ranks sixth in Tulane single-season history. At his current pace (153.17 yards/game), Forté would finish the year 1,838 yards and that would surpass Mewelde Moore's mark of 1,421 yards (2001) by 417 yards.

• With 245 all-purpose yards against the Blazers (209 rushing, 36 receiving) Matt Forté now has 1,112 on the year and 3,953 for his career (3,057 rushing, 885 receiving, 11 returning). He remains third in Tulane history in career rushing yards, just 38 behind second-placed Eddie Price (3,095 from 1946-49) and moves him into fourth place on the career all-purpose yardage listing. Forté surpassed Don Zimmerman (3,733 from 1930-32), Marc Zeno (3,742 from 1984-87) and Terrance Strickland (3,792 from 1993-96) on Saturday and trails Jeff Liggon by 157 yards for third place in school history.

• With a touchdown run against UAB, Matt Forté's now has 28 scores for his career which gives him sole possession of sixth place in Tulane history. Forté broke a sixth-place tie with Jamaican Dartez (27 from 1995-98). His 25 career rushing touchdowns ranks tied for third with Dartez in the Tulane record book, five behind second-placed Eddie Price (30 from 1946-49) and six behind record-holder Bill Banker (31 from 1927-29).

• Forté now has nine rushing touchdowns in 2007, which ties him with Marvin Lewis (1981) for fifth place in Tulane single-season history. He is one score shy of a four-way tie for second place (Jamaican Dartez 1995, Ronny Quillian 1955, Eddie Price 1948) and trails Price's school-record of 11 in 1949 by two.

Anthony Scelfo's 31-yard touchdown pass to Brian King with 7:52 left to play in the first half was the first scoring pass of Scelfo's career. He added a six-yard scoring strike to Jeremy Williams with 2:06 remaining in regulation to mark the first time a Tulane quarterback threw more than one touchdown pass in a game since Game 8 last year (Oct. 28, 2006) - a span of 10 games - when then-senior Lester Ricard had three TD passes in a 42-28 win over Army in the Louisiana Superdome.

• Sophomore wide receiver Jeremy Williams posted his first 100-yard receiving day of the season and second of his career with a career-high 133 yards (six catches) against UAB. His previous career high was 106 yards on 10 grabs last season against UCF (Nov. 18, 2006) in the Louisiana Superdome

Anthony Scelfo posted career-high numbers across the board against the Blazers, completing 19 of 37 passes for 264 yards and a pair of touchdowns. His previous career bests came last weekend when he completed 16-of-25 passes for 154 yards. In addition, Scelfo's 264 yards passing were the most by a Tulane quarterback in 2007.

Matt Forté's 112 yards on 21 first-half carries tonight marks the second time the senior from Slidell, La., surpassed the century mark in the first 30 minutes of a ballgame. Forté had 130 yards on 15 carries on Sept. 22against Southeastern Louisiana.

• Junior defensive lineman Antonio Harris started his 40th consecutive game, the longest such streak on the Green Wave team and longest in the nation among NCAA Division I-Bowl Subdivision defensive linemen.

• A pair of Tulane players started their first career games on Saturday as sophomore Travis Olexa lined up at right tackle and true freshman Tyler Helm started at tight end. In addition, sophomore Nick Landry started his first game of 2007 and second of his career vs. UAB, filling in for an injured Troy Kropog at left tackle.
