Five Tulane players extended their double-digit starting streaks on Saturday vs. Tulsa - senior DE Austen Jacks (27), senior CB Ryan Travis (27), senior OT Eric Jones (18), senior QB Ryan Griffin (16) and senior LB Darryl Farley (16).
With a reception in the first quarter, junior wide receiver Ryan Grant has now caught at least one pass in 10 consecutive games he has played in. Grant missed the final 12 games in 2011 with an injury and returned to the field last week against Rutgers. He collected six receptions against the Scarlet Knights. The last time Grant failed to record a reception in a game he played was on Oct. 9, 2010 against Army.
Grant pulled down his seventh career touchdown and first of the season on a 66-yard catch and run from Devin Powell in the fourth quarter. Grant finished the game with five catches for 109 yards, the second 100-plus yard came of the season and the fourth of his career.
PK Cairo Santos' 49-yard field goal in the first quarter matched the junior's career long. He also made 49-yard FGs at Duke and against Syracuse last season.
Freshman RG Alex Paul made his first career start on Saturday at Tulsa making him the 11th first-time starter for the Green Wave this season. Ten Green Wave players started for the first time on in the season opener against the Scarlet Knights: sophomore Sean Donnelly at left tackle, junior Mike Henry at center, sophomore Rob Kelley at running back, junior Rio Mares at right guard, freshman Darion Monroe at cornerback, redshirt-freshman Corey Redwine at nose tackle, sophomore Justyn Shackleford at wide receiver, sophomore Adam Skidmore at left guard, sophomore Evan Tatford at tight end and sophomore Kenny Welcome at defensive tackle.
Freshman RB Josh Round recorded the first carry of his career on the Green Wave's first possession of the game. He gained three yards on the run to the right.
Freshman P Peter Picerelli boomed a 70-yard punt early in the second quarter, marking his career-long and the first Tulane punt of at least 70- yards since Jonathan Ginsburgh's 73-yard punt at Rutgers on Oct. 2, 2010.
WR Marc Edwards' catch in the third quarter was the redshirt-freshman's first career reception. It was an eight yard reception from Devin Powell.
Sophomore S Sam Scofield recorded a career-high 12 tackles in the game against Tulsa. His previous high of 10 came at Army last season. Scofield made his first start of the season and the third of his career against the Golden Hurricane.
QB Devin Powell (freshman), OG Nate Skold (redshirt freshman) and OT Todd Jacquet (freshman) became the 16th, 17th and 18th players to make their collegiate debut for the Green Wave this season. The three joined the 15 that made in their collegiate debuts for the Green Wave last week against Rutgers. They were true freshmen Darion Monroe (CB), Jordan Batiste (CB), Richard Carthon (DB), Lorenzo Doss (CB), Todd Jacquet (OL), Royce LaFrance (DE), Sydie London (WR), Alex Paul (OG), Peter Picerelli (P) and Calvin Thomas (DL), redshirt-freshmen Corey Redwine (DT), Aaron Bryant (DE), Marc Edwards (WR) and Arturo Uzdavinis (OL), and sophomore Cameron DeJean (LB).
