Has started 36 consecutive games (every game in his career) on the line for the Wave.

2004: Led all Green Wave offensive linemen in number of plays from his left guard position. Graded out to a team-high 85 percent for the year and led the team lead in knockdown blocks with 22. Top games came versus Florida A&M (9/11) and UAB (10/23) with 91% marks, the highest for any Tulane lineman on the season. Posted an 88% mark versus the tough defensive line of Memphis (10/16). Tulane running backs totaled three 100-yard days on the season while quarterbacks were sacked just 24 times in 338 throws. A CoSIDA Academic All-District first team selection and the C-USA Scholar-Athlete of the Year for football.

2003: Graded out to an 83 percent mark for the season in 12 games as the starter at left guard. "Iron Man" of the Tulane line who played 795 of 830 offensive plays (96 percent). Second on the squad with 20 knockdown blocks. Named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District VI First Team. Earned the team's Offensive Player of the Game honor versus Houston (10/11) with a season-high 91 percent mark. Also performed well in the UAB (11/8) and East Carolina (11/22) games with a grade of 85 percent in each contest. Tulane offense posted its fourth-best season in school history with seven 100-yard games by TU backs.

2002: Developed into one of Tulane's top offensive linemen. Named to the C-USA All-Freshman Team. Started all 13 games of the season at left guard alongside fellow freshman Chris McGee. Graded out to an average of 79 percent for the season, second on the team. Ranked second on the team in knockdown blocks with 23. Earned the offensive line's "Sledge Hammer" Award, given to the player with the most dominant blocks in each game, on four occasions to tie for team-high honors. Picked up the honor for his play against Southern (8/31), East Carolina (9/14), Texas (9/28) and UL-Monroe (10/5). Was the Tulane coaches' choice as Offensive Player of the Game for his work against then No. 2-ranked Texas. Three top games came against Houston (9/7), Navy (10/26) and Texas when he was given the "Hard Hat" as an offensive player who graded out at 85 percent or better for the game with no penalties or mental errors. Achieved a "plus" on 604 of his 907 plays on the year. Also second on the team in "key blocks" which led to Tulane big plays or touchdowns. Backed up by his twin brother, Joe.

2001: Redshirted the season.

HIGH SCHOOL: First-team Class 6A All-State choice as a senior. All-Dade County first team selection as well. Three-year starter at tackle for Coach Joe Montoya. Collected 30 pancake blocks as a senior. Coral Gables fielded the top offense in Dade County in both 1999 and 2000. His senior year, the Cavaliers totaled more than 3,000 rushing and 1,400 passing yards, and scored 51 touchdowns. In 1999, CGHS had more than 1,600 rushing and 1,500 passing yards. Team qualified for the state playoffs in both 1999 and 2000. Team captain in 2000.

PERSONAL: Full name is Matthew Samuel Traina. Born December 29, 1982 in Miami, Fla. The son of Sam and Lorraine Traina. The "older" brother of Joe, his twin, who also plays for Tulane. National Honor Society member who graduated in the top seven percent of his class. Earned his bachelor's degree in finance and is currently pursuing his master's in accounting. Selected to the C-USA Commisioner's Honor Roll for each of his four seasons with the Wave and earned the C-USA Academic Medal for 2004-05 with a cumulative GPA above 3.75. Served as President of Tulane's Student-Athlete Advisory Council.
