The Green Wave lost 33-17 to the Memphis Tigers on October 22nd, 2011 at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome.


Football vs. UTEP (10/15/2011)

The Green Wave dropped their Conference USA contest against UTEP, 44-7, at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome on Oct. 15, 2011.

Career Notes: Three-year letterman posted 31 tackles (16 solo, 15 assist), 2.0 tackles for loss, one sack and a pass break-up for his career...played in 33 games with one start.

2011: Saw action in 12 games as a junior...finished tied for 19th on the team with 13 tackles (9 solo, 4 assists)...tied a career-high with four stops (3 solo, 1 assist) at Duke (9/24)...had three tackles (2 solo, 1 assist) vs UTEP (10/15) vs UTEP and had two solo stops vs Houston (11/10)...posted single-tackle performances vs Southeastern Louisiana (9/3), vs Tulsa (9/10), at Army (10/1) and at Hawai'i (11/26).

2010: Played in 11 games with one start as a junior...finished tied for fourth on the team in fumble recoveries (1), tied for sixth in sacks (1.0), tied for eighth in pass break-ups (1) and tied for ninth in tackles for loss (2.0) while posting 15 tackles (5 solo, 10 assists)...tallied a career-high four assisted tackles and a fumble recovery at Houston (9/25)...earned first career start vs Southern Miss (11/6), responding with a pair of tackles (1 solo, 1 assist)...had a sack at Rutgers (10/2) and a tackle for loss vs Rice (11/13).

2009: Saw action in eight games as a sophomore...posted three tackles on the year (2 solo, 1 assist)...had solo stops vs BYU (9/12) and at Southern Miss (10/24) while adding an assisted tackle at UCF (11/21).

2008: Played in two games as a redshirt-freshman, seeing action against Alabama (9/6) and East Carolina (9/12)...missed the final 10 games of the year with an injury.

2007: Did not play as a true freshman...spent year working as a scout team fullback before moving to the defensive line in the spring.

High School: Three-year letterman at Upson-Lee High where he played tight end and defensive line for coach Eddie the field, was a member of the Future Business Leaders of America, Fellowship of Christian Athletes and Talent Search, and was a reporter on the Morning Knight student paper.

Personal: Born Joshua Caleb Smith on December 6, 1988, in Thomaston, Ga...son of Greg and Beverly Smith...father, Greg, played basketball at St. Andrews College while his uncles, Willie and Shelius Smith, played football at Morris Brown College and Furman University, respectively...completed his degree in marketing in May 2012.
