2005: Ranked sixth on the team in tackles with 40, 26 solo, after playing in 10 games with eight starts at cornerback. Also led the team with 23 kick returns for 512 yards (22.3 avg.) and 18 punt returns for 181 yards (10.1 avg.). His punt return average ranked second in the league while his kick return average was eighth. Scored on a career-long 97-yard kick return (ninth-longest in school history) against Southeastern Louisiana (10/1). In the same game, had a 60-yard punt return which was called back by a penalty. Notched a career-best and team season-long 48-yard punt return against Marshall (10/29). Tallied a season-best nine tackles, seven solo, against UCF (10/21). Added eight tackles, three solo, in the Rice game (11/12).

2004: Played in 10 games with four starts at cornerback and one start as the Wave's nickel back, tallying 49 tackles. His 33 solo tackles ranked fourth on the team. Led Tulane with seven pass break-ups and two fumble recoveries. Made a career-high 13 tackles, all solo, in the Wave's upset win over TCU (11/27). Knocked down a pair of passes versus both Army (11/13) and Navy (11/6). Intercepted a pass at Houston (10/30), and added five stops. Recovered a muffed punt against UAB (10/23) to set up a Tulane score and added two pass break-ups. Ignited Tulane at East Carolina (10/9) by causing a fumble on the second-half kickoff which he then picked up and returned 14 yards for a TD.

2003: Starter at nickelback as a true freshman and registered 45 tackles, ninth on the team, as he earned Conference USA All-Freshman recognition. Credited with six tackles, two for loss, and tallied a sack on fourth down against East Carolina (11/22) to end Pirate comeback hopes. Picked off one pass and broke up two versus Houston (10/11). Made a season-high nine tackles at Navy (11/1) with three solo. Forced a pair of fumbles on the year, versus TCU (9/1) and Memphis (10/25). Also collected six tackles against Army (9/20).

HIGH SCHOOL: Named first team kick returner for DeKalb/Rockdale area by The Atlanta Constitution. An honorable mention 5A All-State choice at wide receiver. Recorded 43 receptions for 708 yards and seven touchdowns in 12 games in 2002. His team reached the 5A state quarterfinals. Made four interceptions as a cornerback, three of which he returned for touchdowns. Also returned one kickoff and four punts for touchdowns.

PERSONAL: Full name is Israel Lerato Route. Born December 2, 1984, in Albany, Ga. The son of Carl and Kathy Route. The fifth of seven children. Majoring in communication.
