Nov. 16, 2002 D-Line Feature Story
2002 (through regular season): Top player on the Tulane defensive line who has played brilliantly in the stretch run with 10 tackles for loss and five QB sacks in the last five games of the regular season. Earned First Team All-Conference USA honors. Led all TU defensive linemen in tackles with 60, 37 solo. Also tops on the team with a career single season high 19 tackles for losses totalling 77 yards. Top sacker on the Wave team with his season-best of 7.5 for losses totalling 53 yards; has broken up a career-high five passes. Turned momentum back toward Tulane versus Houston (9/7) by picking up a Cougar fumble on the TU 5 and returning it 95 yards for a touchdown for the longest fumble return score in Green Wave history. Scored two points on a PAT in the Southern Miss game (11/23) by taking a direct snap from center and running into the endzone. Also forced a pair of fumbles, versus East Carolina (9/14) and Army (11/16), and made a key fumble recovery versus Southern Miss. Made a season high eight tackles versus both Navy (10/26) and TCU (11/9) after collecting seven, six solo, against UAB (10/19). Coaches named him Tulane's defensive or co-defensive player of the game versus Memphis, UAB, TCU and Army. Ranks second on the career sack list at Tulane with 19.5, behind only Kenan Blackmon, while his 7.5 sacks this year are sixth-most for a single season. Made 183 career tackles, passed the 100-solo tackle mark versus Army and now has 107.
2001: Played in nine games despite battling injuries throughout the season. Started the first six games of the year at defensive end. Despite recording just 30 tackles (20 solo), notched eight tackles for loss. Tallied a season-high eight tackles, including four for losses, to go with a fumble recovery against UAB (10/20). Had seven tackles and a pass deflection against LSU (9/1). Posted sacks against East Carolina (9/8) and Cincinnati (10/6).
2000: Started every game at defensive end for the Wave. Earned All-Louisiana First Team honors. Tied for the team lead in sacks after recording four in Tulane's last four games and five on the season. Had a pair of sacks in TU's win over Houston (11/4). Tied for second on the squad in tackles for loss with nine (for a team-leading 51 yards). His 54 total tackles were fifth on the team and led all defensive linemen. Made a career-high 10 tackles and broke up a pass at Army (10/21).
1999: Selected to the Conference USA All-Freshman Team. Played in 10 games, starting seven. Tallied 39 tackles, including 14 solos. Had five tackles for loss, five sacks (tied for team lead), one interception, and eight quarterback hurries. His interception came against Memphis (10/30).
HIGH SCHOOL: A 1999 graduate of John Tyler High School in Tyler, Texas. A three-year starter for one of the most successful prep programs in the state of Texas. Earned all-state as well as District 12-5A Defensive Player of the Year honors in 1998 after collecting 65 tackles and 16 quarterback sacks. Named first team all-district and first team All-East Texas. Was tabbed as one of the top 100 players in Texas by Alliance Sports. Coached by Allen Wilson.
